Bone anchored hearing systems

A bone anchored hearing system consists of two separate parts. A screw is surgically implanted into the skull behind the ear and is attached to either an abutment that crosses through the skin or a magnet that sits under the skin. The second part is a processor that attaches to the abutment either physically or with the use of a second magnet and transfers sound from the device to the cochlea. This type of device may be used to treat conductive or mixed hearing losses or single-sided deafness.
